About the Author
D. M. S. Fick is an Emmy-nominated graphic designer and grant-awarded animator. As a broadcast designer, illustrator, and animator at Twin Cities PBS, she worked on Peabody and Emmy award-winning TV shows such as Newton’s Apple, SciGirls, and Liberty! The American Revolution.
Ms. Fick was awarded a Minnesota State Arts Board grant for The Oracle of Nuttown, her cartoon mash-up of forest creatures, mythology, and classic 70s movies.
She grew up in a Minnesota farm town of three hundred people, attending grade school with just eleven other pupils. She graduated high school in Walnut Grove, home of Laura Ingalls Wilder and the location of Wilder’s books Little House on the Prairie and On the Banks of Plum Creek. Fick has since lived in Boston, the Twin Cities, and London.
She once road in a coach from Valencia to Calais with a retired British showgirl who may have tried to get her to smuggle hooch through customs.
